'L'Incroyable Aventure du Professeur Bismuth' (Grand Coeur #18, 1946).

Léonoël (some sources erroneously written as Leno'l) was an artist working for the short-lived Belgian comic weekly Grand Coeur, drawing the serial 'L'Incroyable Aventure du Professeur Bismuth' (1945-1946).

Identity
Nothing is known about the identity of the cartoonist behind the signature Léonoël. In the years 1945 and 1946, his signature appeared in the pages of Grand Coeur, a short-lived comic magazine created by the cartoonist Charles Gilbert and Étienne Lamarche, publisher of the newspaper La Gazette de Liège. A large part of the material in Grand Coeur was provided by magazine editor Charles Gilbert and students from his graphic arts atelier in Liège. These can be recognized by the signatures that are associated with this studio, such as Chargil, Imagil, At-Gil, CAAG and Mac K.B. Since no further wherabouts of the artist Léonoël are known, it is well possible that he was also a student or member of Charles Gilbert's Atelier des Arts Graphiques.

Professuer Bismuth
In the first issue of Grand Coeur of 20 December 1945, Léonoël's science fiction comic serial 'L'Incroyable Aventure du Professeur Bismuth' kicked off. The main character Bismuth is a teacher and an ace in physical science. For the first time in two years, he hears from his brother, a scientist who left with an expedition to the Amazon, but ended up trapped in the bowels of a volcano. Bismuth says goodbye to his children, Pitchette and Riquiqui, and heads for South America to rescue his brother, creating a machine that brings him down to the center of the earth. Along the way, he also has to deal with a rival scientist, who is jealous of Bismuth's invention. The 'Professeur Bismuth' serial came to an end in Grand Coeur issue #42 of 1946, after which the signature of Léonoël also disappeared from its pages.
