Alex Macartney studied at both the Kunstgewerbeschule and the Atelier Bacher in Zürich. He works as an independent illustrator an comic artist since 1987. One of his most famous creations is 'Herr Hummel', a character that appears in Zürich Express since 1992. Another one is 'Die Loge', which he does for Metropol Zürich. He also does comics for C&A-Zeitung, Tages Anzeiger, Tele, and ZüriTipp. Macartney is an illustrator for Der Beobachter, Coop-Zeitung, and Perspectiven, and cartoons for Nebelspalter.
