Rista Sportista, by Moma Markovic
'Rista Sportista'.

Moma Markovic was a comic artist from Former Yugoslavia, active during the Golden Age of Serbian comics (the 1930s). For Jez magazine, he created 'Stojadin', a character that appeared in single-panel cartoons, but also in comic episodes. Markovic was also the creator of the football strip 'Rista Sportista', that appeared in Politikin Zabavnik from its early issues in 1939. World War II abrubtly ended the Serbian comic scene. Markovic was deported into an Austrian war camp in 1941. He eventually escaped and fled to Italy. He emigrated to Canada in 1951, and never returned to Belgrade. He should not be confused with Serbian politician Moma Marković (1912-1992).
