The Milton Berle Story ( Uncle Milty, 1950)

Calvin Massey was a fine artist and illustrator from New Jersey, who was active in the American comic book field from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s. His early credits from the 1940s include stories for the titles 'Perfect Crime' and 'Steve Duncan' for Cross Publications, and crime stories for Superior Publishers. He got a job with Timely/Atlas after his graduation from the Hussain School of Art in Philadelphia in 1950. He drew for the company's horror, war and crime titles, like 'Battle Action', 'Battle', 'Marines in Battle', 'Spellbound' and 'War Comics'. Additional work include romance stories for St. John Publishing, 'Little Wise Guys' for Lev Gleason and 'Crimson Avenger' and 'Masked Ranger' for 'Story Comics'.

He worked for advertising agencies in Philadelphia and New York, and he created illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. Eventually, he joined the Franklin Mint as a designer and sculptor creating over 200 designs. He has represented the African-American community in the art world with his paintings. He has continued painting in old age; he was still active in 2009 at the age of 83.
