'Chip 'n' Dale'. Dutch-language version.
Lawrence Henry Mayer was born in 1921 in Dutzow, Missouri, but spent most of his childhood in the nearby town Lyon. His father was a farmer. In 1942, Mayer was drafted and served in the Marine corps until 1946. He went to an unspecified art school, according to his 2002 obituary in the Los Angeles Times.
In the late 1950s, Mayer worked for the American production of Disney comics for foreign publications. He was also art director for coloring books and drew several covers, stories and lettered for Gold Key and Whitman Comics.
He did various covers, and worked as an inker of Tony Strobl's work. He worked as a penciller on stories with characters like 'Scamp' and 'Chip 'n' Dale'. He also worked as an inker for the newspaper comics. He briefly inked Floyd Gottfredson's 'Mickey Mouse' in the 1970s. He then had a long run on Sparky Moore's 'Winnie the Pooh' daily, before he inked Pete Alvarado's daily 'Donald Duck' strip in the late 1980s. He continued working with Disney comics at Gladstone until the 1990s.
In 2002, he passed away in Los Angeles.
