'Gertie O'Grady' (Los Angeles Times, 23 May 1943).

Paul McCarthy was the artist of the Sunday comic strip 'Gertie O'Grady' (1940-1943), distributed to US newspapers through the Chicago Tribune- New York News Syndicate. The companion strip was 'Silly-Ettes'. In the mid-1950s, he was one of the artists hired by Harvey Comics to draw the 'Sad Sack' comic book, based on George Baker's newspaper comic. Other features he drew for Harvey Comics were 'Fun at the Zoo' and 'Holly of Hollywood'. He retired from Harvey in the 1960s due to arthritis and died in 1991.
