Illustration for campain against trams in Lisabon, by Méco (1954)

António Alves Mendes, better known as Méco, was a Portuguese comic artist whose work was published in O Papagaio in the 1940s and 1950s. For this magazine, he made several covers and the cinemagraphic series 'Família Patelhicas.' Méco's work was aimed at children, as can be seen in his illustrations for a preventive campaign, warning of the dangers of trams in Lisabon. Méco is the father of José Manuel Mendes, better known as Zé Manel, another Portuguese comic artist.
