Luigi Merati began his comics career in 1960, illustrating several comics based on the lives of explorers for the Instituto Missioni Estere. He illustrated some episodes of the series 'Eroica' for Dardo publishers in 1970, graphically created 'Kosmos' for Mondadori and produced several  erotic comics for Edifumetto. He joined the publishing house Bonelli in 1977, where he cooperated on series like 'Josélito', 'Mister No', and 'Il Piccolo Ranger'. Merati drew 'Viet Nam' at the publishing house Eden, and did several stories for Corrier Boy ('Willy West' in 1978-1979) and Tiramolla (1990s). He dropped his comics activities for a while to become an illustrator for publishers like De Agostini and Curcio. He eventually returned to comics, starting with 'Diabolik' in 2002. He began the series 'Dolorès' with text by Jean-Marc Lainé in Spécial Rodéo at Semic France.
