Giaci Mondaini was one of the most famous Italian cartoonists of the 1930s and 1940s. For Il Corriere dei Piccoli, he created characters like 'Escamillo' (1927), 'Ecco', 'Il Settebello', and 'Il Bertoldo'. He was a member of a generation of satirical Italian artists who tried to provoce the "sleeping public". Besides comics, Mondaini was an illustrator, caricaturist, painter and writer.
