Paulo Monteiro was born in 1967 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. He studied at the University of Lisbon. He began his career as comic author, self-publishing his own fanzines: Abelharuco, Eclipse and De Washington a Moscovo com Partida em Nova Lorque. In 1996, he founded the collective Toupeira, which includes artists like Lam, Susa Monteiro and Véte. In 2005, he published the album 'Mariana'. His comics appear in Tertúlia BDzine, Café e Cigarros, Venham + 5 and Efeméride. He contributes to the Galician fanzine Barsowia since 2005 with stories like 'Mortos não dançam', 'O Amor Infinito que te Tenho', 'Irei Ver a Amada', and 'A Canção do Soldado'. He has done 'Radio Miedo' with Kike Benlloch. He is also the Director of the International Comics Festival from Beja. As an illustrator, he has more than 30 books published.
He should not be confused with Brazilian painter and sculptor Paulo Monteiro (1961).
