Daan Mulder was born in Leiden. He studied Literature at the VU in Amsterdam. It was during this period (1969-1973) that he made several comic strips for the student magazines of the University, such as 'Japido' for Pharetra, 'Kokker' for Ad Valvas and 'Eenmans' in Malaar. He signed his work "Dader".
