The Bosun and Choclit, by George Needham (George Robb)

George Alexander Needham was born in 1903 in London, England, and emigrated to Australia in 1915. He studied at the Prahran Technical College and got a job at the Art Department of Union Theatres. In 1923 he was Head Artist for Victory Publicity. For magazine Table Talk he created the comic 'The Dwight Family' at the end of the 1920s. In the 1930s he drew cartoons for the first Melbourne Age.

At the same time, he made illustrations and paintings, which were exhibited in a one man show at Margaret McLean's Gallery in 1938, the same year he moved to Sydney. After the War, during which he did propaganda art, he created the comic series 'The Bosun and Choclit', using the pseudonym George Robb. This series became very popular and ran until the late 1950s. Needham passed away in 1985 at age 81.
