Joe Petagno is an American designer and illustrator, who is best known for designing most album and single covers for the metal band Motörhead since 1975. He also made a 1974 comic book about Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright.
Life and career
Joe Petagno was born in 1948 in Portland, Maine, but settled in the UK in 1972. He was affiliated with the London-based art design group Hipgnosis headed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell for a while. Besides Motörhead, he has also made designs for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Sweet, Roy Harper, Marduk, Bal-Sagoth, Autopsy, Attick Demons, Illdisposed, The Graeme Edge Band and The Baker Gurvitz Army. Petagno was the artist behind the back cover and installment about keyboard player Richard Wright in the comic book that came with Pink Floyd's 1974-1975 tour. Other artists involved were Richard Evans, Gerald Scarfe, Paul Stubbs, Colin Elgie and Dave Gale.
