After an education in photography and printing, Roland Pignault got in touch with his childhood friend Fred Campoy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Pau. Pignault stayed at the academy for only three months, but he did begin an atelier with Campoy in 1986. Pignault and Campoy began to draw for fanzines and advertising assignments, while corresponding with comics authors like Cailleteau, Loisel, Vatine and Blanchard.
In 1998, they created the series 'Arcanes', for which they both did the artwork and for which Jean-Pierre Pécau did the writing. Campoy left the series after the first album, and Pignault drew the second on his own. The artwork was done by Bojan Kovacevic from the third album. Pignault then went to Dupuis, where he contributed to Spirou and drew the episode 'La Luxure' in Alcante's 'Pandora Box' series in 2005. In 2009 he worked with Joël Callède on the series 'Asthénie', which was cancelled after only one album. In addition his career in comics, Pignault and Campoy also play in a band together.
