Born in Saint-Pierre-de-Wakefield in Val-des-Monts, Quebec, Christian Quesnel is influenced by manga artists Leiji Matsumoto and Go Nagaï, as well as the Italian artist Hugo Pratt. Since his adolescence, Quesnel drew for several local publications. He learned the finer points of the comics profession from Paul Roux, and went to study graphics in Ottawa for three years. His first comic book, 'Le Crépuscule des Bois-Brûlés', a historical story about the Métis revolt, appeared in 1995. He continued with further historical comics, like 'La Quête des Oubliés' (1998) and 'Le Grand Feu' (1999). In 2001, he began publishing his comic '666.5' in the cultural review Liaison. In addition, he made illustrations for the publishing houses L'Interligne and Vents d'Ouest, and cooperated with Yves and Félix Saint-Denis on a book about the history of Ontario.
