Aleksije Ranhner was born in 1897 in the Russian empire, but emigrated to Belgrade, Yugoslavia at age 20. He made his comics debut in the first issue of Veseli Zabavnik, on 20 February 1937. He made the realistic story 'Mermerni Grad' and stories with 'Mika Miš' ('Mickey Mouse'). From the 82nd issue, the magazine was renamed to Mika Miš, and Ranhner took on a series of comic adaptations of novels by writers like Alexander Dumas ('The Count of Monte Christo'), Charles Dickens ('David Copperfield'), Victor Hugo and Tolstoy. Aleksije Ranhner was found dead in the Karaburma suburb of Belgrade, after having fallen in a ditch in a drunken condition on a cold October night in 1942.
