Júlio Resende, a Portuguese painter, made his entrance in the comic world in the 1940s in magazines like Jornal de Notícias and Primeiro de Janeiro. His most important series is 'Matulão e Matulinho'. In his stories, he liked to use the ironic aspects of the theories of Dr. Benjamin Spock.
In the 1940s and 1950s, other characters show the capabilities of humorous comics and social satire of Resende, like 'O Fagundes Arrepiado', 'O Senhor Freitas' and 'O Feli-Feli'. For O Papagaio, he made comic adaptations of famous stories, like 'Robinson Crusoe'.
