Eric Resetar was a comics pioneer in New Zealand, being the country's first self-published comics creator. He started publishing comic books while begin a schoolkid in the 1940's. He secured rationed paper from the New Zealand government with the idea that locally-produced comics might improve national morale. Very few of the comics have remained in New Zealand, with most of them were being taken back the United States by US servicemen during World War II.
Resetar continued to self-publish comic books with exiting titles like 'Crash O'Kane: All Blacks On Mars', 'Crash Carson Of The Future', 'Half-Back Comics: The Space Pirates', 'Adventure: Thrills On The Planet Jupiter!', 'Treasure Comics: Black Cobra And The Red Gold', 'Captain Sinister', 'Childrens Xmas Comic' and 'Invisible Smith' throughout the 1950's and 1960's. In recent years, Resetar has been reprinting his old comics with the technology of laser copying. He passed away in Auckland in 2011. The biannual Eric Awards for New Zealand Comics were named in his honor.
