Although André Rigal is mainly known for his work in the animation field, he was also one the pioneering French artists in balloon comics. He headed an animation studios which employed among others Robert Velter.

In addition to Saint-Ogan's 'Zig et Puce', Rigal drew the comic series 'Cap'taine Sabord' (1928) in Pierrot. The series was also published in Wrill in the mid-1940s, and later Cap'taine Sabord magazine, both published by Gordinne. For Wrill, Rigal also drew 'Mizo et Friquet' under the signature Bruno. 'Cap'taine Sabord' was also featured in a series of animated films.
