El Vengador by Alberto Romero

Alberto Romero was an author of Argentinian comics, active in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Born in Lanús, Buenos Aires, as the son of immigrants from Galicia, he spent his childhood in a tenement. He began his career working for the publishing house Lainez in Buenos Aires at the age of 15. He took courses in art from the Escuela Panamericana de Arte.

At 18, he began publishing his work as an artist in Argentinian and Chilean magazines like Tit-bits, El Gorrión, Puño Fuerte, Hacha Brava, Poncho Negro, Rayo Rojo, Pimpinela, Lanza Brava, Bucaneros, and Okey. In the latter, a publication of Editorial Zig Zag, he published his best known creations, such as the sports comic 'Roberto, un as del Deporte'. He also succeeded Alberto Breccia as the artist of 'El Vengador'.

Beginning in 1948, he left Editorial Lainez to draw for Zig Zag in Chile, initially from Buenos Aires. In 1952 he left Lanús and settled in Santa Maria de Punilla, in the area of Cordoba. Romero retired from drawing in 1962 for family reasons in 1962. He passed away in 1991.
