Alexandre Ruyer is a French comic author and writer, who mostly works under the name Aré. He was born in the small town of Neuilly-sur-Seine, and got his interest in comics and drawing from his parents. He began his career modestly, giving drawings courses, and as an apprentice with an ad agency. By 1999, he became an apprentice at the editorial offices of Le Journal de Mickey, and soon became a regular provider of game pages for the French Disney magazines, such as Le Journal de Mickey, Mickey Parade, Picsou Magazine and Mickey Jeux.
During the 2000s, Ruyer eventually developed his own comic strip starring a group of kids and their dog. Besides publication in Le Journal de Mickey, 'Les Potatoes' was also collected in book format by Paquet. Aré has additionally created the non-Disney riddle comic 'Matt Lamite' for the magazines, and he wrote the scripts for several 'Mickey Mouse' riddle comics, drawn by Thomas Cabellic and Studio Comicup.
'La Tribu des Insu'portables'.
In 2007, Ruyer launched his solo humor comic 'La Tribu des Insu'Portables', of which Vents d'Ouest published two books. It was followed by another humour comic, this time dealing with soccer, 'Foot Goal'. Four books were published by Vents d'Ouest between 2009 and 2012. Soccer was also the theme for 'Carton Rouge', another humour comic book by Aré (Vents d'Ouest, 2014). In that same year, he also made two one-shots with writer Olivier Petit: 'Nous, les footeux de district!' and 'Nous, Les Purs Motards!' for Éditions Physalis.
He has worked as a scriptwriter for Cédric Ghorbani ('Trop bien, la Colo!' at Vents d'Ouest in 2012) and Lyx ('Mila' at Éditions Jungle, 2016). Under the pen name Toma, he also writes the riddle comic 'Mini 'Olmes', with artwork by Moko, for Sciences et Vie Découverte.
