Chip Martin, by Tom Scheuer (1960)
'Chip Martin, College Reporter'.

Thomas B. Scheuer studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, starting at age 7. By age 11, he already drew gag cartoons for a Baking Industry trade journal. He moved to New York to attend the Art Students League at age 20. From 1950 on, he freelanced on several romance comic books, mainly on Marvel's 'My Own Romance', 'Love Romances' and 'My Love Story'. For Boy's Life magazine, he created an advertising strip: 'Chip Martin, College Reporter'.

Scheuer ghosted on such newspaper strips as 'Flash Gordon' (during the period when Daniel Barry and Mac Raboy continued the series), Leonard Starr's 'Mary Perkins, On Stage', Elliot Caplin and Stan Drake's 'The Heart of Juliet Jones' and Al Capp's 'Li'l Abner', and worked extensively in the advertising field. He eventually moved over to television writing and production. He was producer and writer for the 1990s 'Murder She Wrote' TV series, starring Angela Lansbury, and also a mystery novelist. He changed his name to Tom Sawyer, in reference to Mark Twain's famous literary character.
