'Die Arche Noah'.
Erich Schmitt was born in Berlin in 1924. After World War II, living in the Russian-occupied part of Berlin, he became a comic artist for newspaper Berliner Zeitung. He created the amusing comic series 'Die Arche Noah' ("für fröhliche Mitmenschen" - "for cheerful people", 1953). Other titles are 'Kuno Wimmerzahn' (1955), 'Nixi. Die Lebensgeschichte einer Seejungfrau' (1954), 'Schwester Monika' (1956), 'Ede der Tierparklehrling' (1964) and 'Zirkus Alberto' (1970).
Erich Schmitt worked for the Berliner Zeitung for three decades. His work was so popular that it was printed already in the 1950s, and in 1968 the big book 'Das dicke Schmitt-Buch' presented a vast collection of his comics. Erich Schmitt died in 1984.
