Orijit Sen can be considered the father of modern Indian comics, and a pioneer in Indian graphic novels. He studied graphic design at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, where he developed his interest in underground comix. He has worked on several exhibition and museum design projects in India, the UK and Russia. He also works as a freelance graphic designer, comic creator and illustrator in New Delhi, and is also the creative director of People Tree, which he co-founded with wife Gurpreet in 1990.

He is a member of the Pao Collective. One of his regular characters is the Bengali explorer 'Prabhat Ranjan Mazoomder'. His published works include 'The River of Stories' (1994), one of India's first graphic novels, 'Imung' and the award-winning collaboration 'Trash!'. The son of a cartographer, Sen has also worked on maps and murals that incorporate visual storytelling.
