'Fair Dinkum Histories'.
Peter Sheehan is a freelance illustrator, writer, designer and storyboard artist based in Canberra, Australia. He started his career working for Hanna-Barbera in Sydney as a layout artist and background painter on animated TV shows such as 'Popeye', 'Top Cat' and 'Scooby Doo'. He began his long-term association with The School Magazine in 1982. He has made cover and interior illustrations, as well as the serialized graphic novels 'High Seas' (2010) and 'Alien Encounters' (2011) for this publication of the Australian government.
Sheehan has furthermore illustrated over 25 children's books, including Paul Shaw's 'Captain Cat and the Umbrella Kid' series (2000). He created the cartoons, maps and illustrations for the eight-book series 'Fair Dinkum Histories' by Jackie French (2004-2011). This series served as spin-off for Scholastic's 'Horrible Histories' book series (originally written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown), and focused on the history of Australia.
He also makes caricatures, editorial cartoons for The Australian and Walkley Magazine, and storyboards for presentations and films. Among the films that he storyboarded for are the Australian productions 'The Sapphires' (2012), 'Beneath Hill 60' (2010) and 'The Hunter' (2011). Sheehan's shipwreck stories of the Pandora and Sydney Cove were performed at the Australian National Maritime Museum in 1997 and he has worked as co-author and illustrator with the Department of Community Services, the NSW Police and the Roads and Traffic Authority, designing community service campaigns.
