Nina
Nothing is known about the creator behind the "Simy" signature. In the reference guide 'Dictionnaire Illustré de la Bande Dessinée Belge de la Libération aux Fifties (1945-1950)' by Frans Lambeau, it is suggested that he or she was one of the students in the graphic arts atelier of Charles Gilbert. Starting in issue #9 of 1945, Simy's comic 'Nina' began publication in Wrill, a new comic magazine named after a fox character by Albert Fromenteau and published by Éditions Gordinne. The serial stars a girl called Nina, who ends up in a fairy tale world, where she has to help the fairy Libellule and her page Tilly to recover an enchanted necklace that is stolen by the villain Zouf. Appearing in a corner on the back cover for a while and then in the interior pages, the poetic 'Nina' strip ran until issue #48 in 1946, with an interruption between issues #21 and #30. The story was subsequently collected in book format by Gordinne, both in Dutch and French language.
