Gottfried Spachholz spent most of his life in the DDR (German Democratic Republic), the communist part of Germany. He contributed to newspaper Berliner Zeitung am Abend, where he created comics such as 'Texas Jimmy' in 1953, 'Fritz und Franz aus West-Deutschland' in 1951, 'Olympia ist unschuldig' in 1955 and crime comics like 'Goldschürfer im Frack' and 'Die Spinne von San Francisco'. All his work demonstrated the corruptness of the West and accentuated the good features of the new East Germany.
