Puck und Muck
Carl Storch was born in Budapest and was an illustrator for magazines like Jugend, Fliegende Blätter and Simplicissimus. He has done book illustrations for the tales of Grimm and for the children's stories of 'Maus und Molli'. For Der Seraphischer Kinderfreund, he created the characters 'Puck und Muck' (originally called 'Pukchen und Mukchen), about two gnomes in land of the Sandman, in 1906.
In 1926, he began a collaboration with the Dutch writer Frans Fransen. Together, they created new stories with the characters, published in De Engelbewaarder by the R.K. Jongensweeshuis in Tilburg. These stories were also collected in 12 books until 1940. After the War, Fransen continued to write new 'Puk en Muk' books, but by now they were illustated by Leo van Grinsven.
