Le Parcours d'un Puceau
Born in Neuilly, Fabrice Tarrin studied art at the École Estienne and then further developed his artistic abilities with the Atelier Nawak during a period of five years, and later also the Atelier des Vosges. He began his professional career as an illustrator in Spirou magazine, with editorial drawings for the Zig Zag section and the table of contents in 1991. He subsequently made a couple of gag pages and two short comic stories for the magazine starring characters like 'Mademoisselle Peggy Sue' and 'Cochon'.
He also began a collaboration with Astrapi magazine, for which he made 'Stéphanie au Pays des Cochons' and 'Les Aventures de Billy Bidibip'. His first album was 'Les Aventures de Monsieur Tue-tout' in cooperation with writer Fred Neidhardt, that was published by Soleil Productions in 1997. He contributed to À Suivre during the last months of the magazine's existence and he assisted Lewis Trondheim on the development of the animated films based on the Trondheim creations 'La Mouche' and 'Jack et Marcel'.
Violine
He then created 'Violine' with writer Tronchet, a series about a mysterious girl with big purple eyes who can read people's thoughts, that was serialized in Spirou and published in book format by Dupuis between 2001 and 2007. In 2004, he created 'Nestor et Polux' in cooperation with O'Groj and Fred Neidhardt in the relaunched magazine Pif Gadget. A first album appeared in November 2005, followed by a complete collection in 2009. With his Franquin-inspired style, it was not surprisingly that Tarrin created a book in the collection 'Une Aventure de Spirou et Fantasio par...' in 2007. Written by Yann, 'Le Tombeau de Champignac', brought back several classic Franquin elements and characters.
Spirou et Fantasio
Following his relation with comic artist Laurel and his move from Paris to Montpellier, Tarrin started making auto-biographical and auto-fiction comics for his blog Tarrinblog, in which he portrays himself as a lemur. The stories were collected in books like 'Journal intime d'un lémurien' (Delcourt, 2008), 'Charlotte Gainsbourg, mon amour' (Delcourt, 2010), 'Le Parcours d'un puceau' (Delcourt, 2012), 'Sexe, amour et déconfiture' (Hachette, 2012), and also evolved into the auto-fiction series 'Maki', that was published by Dupuis in 2010 and 2011.
