Kanerva ja yks juttu
Matti Petteri Tikkanen studied graphic design at the Lahti Polytechnoc Institute of Design. He self-published several comics, such as 'Kuolema kummina' (1993), 'Suolla paikka jossa voi kuolla' (1994), 'Surma' (1997) and 'Maailma on tyly'. Petteri Tikkanen is a two-time winner of the first prize at the Arctic Comics festival in Kemi. A study trip to Mozambique provided the material for his travelogue, 'De Mocambique Portagem Normal' (1999).
It's a Grim World
A recurring theme in his work is the child who observes the world in wide-eyed wonder, such as his recurring character 'Kanerva'. In the book 'Kanerva ja yks juttu' (2007), Kanerva deals with the death of her grandmother. The titles 'Kanerva ja kirottu lokki' (2008), 'Eero' (2009) and 'Mopo' (2011) investigate childhood and growing up.
However, Tikkanen also like to delve into the horror genre, which he does for his self-published zines. His work has also been published in magazines like Stripburger. He performs and plays guitar under the name Black Peider, and his 2008 comic book with the same name depicts sexual fantasies.
