'Skeets'.
Dow Walling had no formal art education when he started his first strip, 'Campus Cowboys'. He learned the trade by working as an assistant to Milt Gross and H.T. Webster. Walling created 'Skeets' (1932-1952), a gentle newspaper Sunday strip about a young boy. Childless himself, Walling drew the adventures of young Skeets, his passive parents, pals Button-Nose, Whiffle, cousin 'Eggy' Hanty, Pudge Willikins and others from 1932 until 1951. Another strip, 'Jimmy's Jobs', won Walling the Freedom Foundation Prize twice. In 1946, he hosted his own CBS television show, called 'Here's Dow'.
