Comic for Mad Magazine.
Carlos Alberto Paes de Oliveira is a Brazilian comic book author and cartoonist, who works under the pen name Xalberto. He began his career in the pages of the groundbreaking 1970s underground magazine Balão with the comic 'Contos de Nenhum Lugar'. This comic was later featured in a book publication by Editora Massao Ohno (1979). Another early creation was the series 'Olympus' for the newspaper supplement Suplemento de Quadrinhos da Folha de São Paulo.
Xalberto has served as a scriptwriter for the Brazilian Disney comics of Editorial Abril in the first half of the 1970s. He also wrote scripts for the comics based on Monteiro Lobato's fantasy novel series 'Sítio do Picapau Amarelo' ('The Yellow Woodpecker Farm') and for local production of comic stories starring Mort Walker's 'Beetle Bailey' ('Recruta Zero'), both for Rio Gráfica Editora between 1980 and 1986.
Xalberto has been a longtime writer and artist for the Brazilian edition of MAD Magazine, published by Editora Vecchi (from 1979), Editora Record (1986-2000), Mythos Editora (2004-2006) and Panini Comics (2008-2010). He has contributed to Revista Crás! (Abril, 1974-1975) and Eca Magazine (Mythos Editora, 2006-2007). Among his albums are 'Íncaro' (1980) and 'O Paulistano da Glória' (2004).
