Aï Yazawa is one of the representatives of the modern shôjo manga style (girl's manga). She first took part in a contest for young mangakas when she was 13 years old. At 18, she shortly attended the Fashion Institute in Osaka. She began working as a mangaka more professionaly around the same time. Her first manga was called 'Ano Natsu'. A music lover, she created the serial 'Nana', about a guitarist/singer. Other serials by Yazawa are 'Barade made Soba ni Ite', 'Marine Blue no Kaze ni Dakarete', 'Gokinjo Monogatari' and 'Paradise Kiss'.
