In 1938, Xiaoying Yue studied commercial art at the Zhenhai Business School. One year later, he started studying New Year's Painting. Yue learned how to draw cartoons, and started drawing comics for children. In the 1950s he won the first prize at the First National Exhibition of Comic Art for his comic strip 'The Colorful Road'.

Yue became a member of the National Chinese Artists Association and his works were published in 'Selected Comics for Children by Yue Xiaoying'. Because children were always dear to his heart, and children loved his comics, Yue was called "an old friend of the little friends."
