Gimple Beinish, by Samuel Zagat (1917)
'Gimple Beinish the Matchmaker'.

Samuel Zagat was a Lithuanian-Jewish artist who moved to New York City as a child, and worked as a cartoonist for the ethnic press. In 1912, he created 'Gimple Beinish the Matchmaker' for the New York Yiddish daily Warheit (Varhayt). As it was written in Hebrew, the comic had to be read from right to left. Gimple ran until 1919, when Zagat became editorial cartoonist and illustrator for the Jewish Daily Forward. Zagat remained in this occupation until his death at age 76 in 1964.
