'Professor Balthazar'. Dutch-language version.
Ante Zaninovic was an Croatian animator from Zagreb. He graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in painting and worked at Zagreb Film from 1960. He is the author of numerous short animated films, most notably 'Zidl ('The Wall', 1965) and 'O Rupama i čepovima' ('About Holes and Plugs', 1967). He also directed two short feature films, 'Weekend' and 'Good Morning Son'.
Together with Zlatko Grgić and Boris Kolar, he was co-director, co-scriptwriter and an animator of the television cartoon 'Professor Balthazar' (1969-1971). He also drew several one-page comic gags with the character, published in the Dutch magazine Pep. He returned to comics in the 1980s with the bird 'Kljunko'.
In 1968, Zaninovic won the Grand Prix of Locarno for 'About Holes and Plugs'.
