Bill Ziegler did the 'Annie Oakley' Sunday page from 1951 to 1952. A year later, he did the daily 'Dragnet' strip, which he continued until 1954. He was an assistant inker on the 'Mary Worth' newspaper strip by Ken Ernst from 1954 to 1970. From 1985 to 1991, he also did the pencil work on the strip.

Ziegler worked for Dell Publishing from 1956 to 1959, illustrating such western and adventure series as 'The Frontiersman', 'Rex Allen', 'Dale Evans', 'Range Rider', 'Johnny Mack Brown', and 'Wild Bill Elliot'. He returned to the company in 1975, when he did some adventure stories for Disney ('Island at the Top of the World', 'Escape to Witch Mountain', 'Andy Burnet'). In the 1970s, he worked on 'Grimm's Ghost Stories' and 'Addams Family', the latter based on Charles Addams’ cartoon series.
