Malek Zirout was trained to be a radiologist, but he was also active as a comic author. He participated in the rare comic festivals that Algeria had during the 1970s, and wrote many scripts for artists like Ben Attou Masmoudi (such as the series 'Les Freres Barberousse'). He was also an artist himself; ENAL published his book 'La Route du Sel' in 1984. Zirout passed away a couple of months later.
