25 Years of Comiclopedia (and 56 years of Lambiek)!

This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Comiclopedia! In November 1999, comic book store Lambiek (now 56 years old) launched this encyclopedia of comic creators on their website (which was then 5 years old and is now 30 years online).

I (Bas Schuddeboom) have been involved in this wonderful project since 2001, back when I worked alongside Margreet de Heer under the inspiring leadership of Kees Kousemaker (1942–2010). These days, I have a great collaboration with Kjell Knudde from Antwerp and Dan Schiff from Berkeley, California. This photo from 2004 is now 20 years old and shows how we used to work in the early days — on location, with Kees overseeing everything. Kees has now been gone for 14 years, but his spirit still watches over our Comiclopedia as its soul and conscience, where readers can now learn about 14,328 comic artists!
