31 August 2025
On 31 August 2015, a correspondence started between Kjell Knudde from Belgium and Comiclopedia editor Bas Schuddeboom in the Netherlands. This became a fruitful collaboration, which resulted in a "New Deal" of writing comic creator biographies.
While the original Comiclopedia articles were short and basic, we are now focusing on more thorough biographies, delving into a creator's background, influences and themes.
At the moment 2,220 entries on the site are New Deal, with 12,187 to go. Since these take a lot more time to investigate and write, we'll never finish Kees Kousemaker's project in our lifetime, but it at least keeps us busy and having fun!
Five years ago, the overall content has improved even more with the help of our proofreader and overseas consultant Dan Schiff. Evenutally, this heralded in an even Newer Deal, based on Dan's writing tips. But that's next year's jubilee...
