Aurélien Froment is a French comic artist, comics journalist and cartoonist, who works under the pen name Aurel. He was born in 1980 in the Ardèche region, and works as a press illustrator for the newspaper Le Monde and the weeklies Marianne and Politis. His drawings have appeared in critical and satirical publications like CQFC, La Lettre du Cadre Territorial and Le Canard Enchainé. He has a comics column called 'Le Mari de l'Infirmière' in L'Infirmière Magazine, a professional publication for nursing officers. He can express his passion for music in his drawings for Jazz Magazine, and through his graphic designs for the groups Massilia Sound System and Oai Star.

Aurel makes journalistic pieces in comics format with journalists Pierre Daum (in Le Monde) and Renaud Dely (at Glénat/Drugstore). Aurel and Dely are authors of journalistic comic investigations about French presidents Nicolas Sarkozy ('Sarkozy et les Femmes' and 'Sarkozy et les Riches') and François Hollande ('Hollande et ses 2 Femmes' and 'La République des Couacs'). He created even more political satire in Fluide Glacial with 'Rase Campagne' in cooperation with Yan Lindingre.

Jungle! has published two comic books of 'Les Annonces en BD', a comic strip he made with Fab in 2004 and 2005. He is the author of a journalistic, but fictional, comic about illegal immigrants, called 'Clandestino' (Glénat, 2014), and of the autobiographical family chronicle 'La Menuiserie' (Futuropolis, 2015), in which he addresses sociological and political questions.

He additionally made a graphic contribution to the anti-racism collective comic book 'Rire Contre Le Racisme' (Jungle!, 2006).

In 2010, Aurel and cartoonist Pascal Gros developed one of the first subscription applications for cartoons on smartphones, called 'Ça Ira Mieux Demain'. In the following year, he co-directed his first animated short 'Octobre Noir', about the Paris massacre of 1961.
