Alejandro Becares is an Argentinian painter, illustrator and cartoonist, also known also Becs. He ranks cartoonists like Oski, Saul Steinberg, Sempé, Quino, Caloi and Crist among his main influences. He was born in Buenos Aires and attended several Fine Arts schools, as well as a painting seminar by Duilio Pierri at the Ernesto de la Cárcova School of Fine Arts. Active since the mid-1980s, Becs' illustrations and cartoons have appeared in leading Argentinian magazines such as Satiricón, Politicón and Crisis, and also in the Peruvian daily Arequipa al Día.
He works in a variety of techniques and with different materials, including pencil, roller marker pen or felt marker pen, color pencils, watercolors, inks, acrylics, paint brushes, Photoshop, photography, photomontage and collages. He describes absurdity, osbservation, witticism, exaggeration and puns the main elements of his work. Becs has received numerous awards for both his paintings and his humorous work.
