Miguel Calatayud was born in Aspe, Alicante. He is a Spanish comic artist and illustrator, best known for his illustrations for children's books. got his master's degree in Fine Arts in 1966. He did his first comics in Trinca magazine in 1971. He also drew for La Ballena Alegre and its children's supplement El Balenato, as well as magazines like Madriz, Medios Revueltos, Cairo, Bouquet, Vitalidad and many more.

He stands as one of the revolutionary artists of the 1980s comic scene and one of the main representatives of "Valencian Clear Line", together with Daniel Torres, Mique Beltrán, Micharmut and Sento. In recent years, he has cooperated on a comic homage called about Don Quijote de la Mancha, called 'Lanza en Astillero' (2005). His creation 'El Pie Frito' won the first prize at the Salón de Cómic in Barcelona. Besides this prize, he has won several other prizes for his illustration and engraving work.

Calatayud is director of the illustrated books collection Diálogo Infantil of Editorial Diálogo. In this collection, he has also illustrated several books himself, such as 'El Bosque de mi Abecedario' by Pedro Villar and 'Tres Viajes' by Jordi Botella.
