Le Quatrième Pouvoir - L'Ile D-7 (2008)
Juan Gimenez was an Argentinian comic book artist from Spain, who was specialized in science fiction comics for Les Humanoïdes Associés. He was born in Mendoza, Argentina, where he studied industrial design. He later went to Barcelona, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. Back in Argentina, he made his first comics for the important Argentinian publishing houses Colomba and Record, but eventually turned to advertising and animation. In 1970, he left South America for good and settled at the Spanish Costa Brava. There, he often worked in collaboration with Carlos Trillo or Ricardo Barreiro for Spanish magazines like Zona 84 and Comix International, but also for Italian publications such as LacioStory and Skorpio.
Léo Roa
Giménez first established himself as a master of science fiction with his books 'Léo Roa' (1985) and 'Le Quatrième Pouvoir' (1987), that were published in France by Dargaud. A second 'Léo Roa' book was published by Giménez's regular publisher Les Humanoïdes Associés in 1991. In 1991, he also made the sci-fi one-shot 'Le Regard de l'Apocalypse' with Roberto Dal Prá for the publishing house Bagheera.
A year later, he teamed up with scriptwriter Alejandro Jodorowsky to start the sci-fi saga 'La Caste des Méta-Barons' ('The Metabarons') for Les Humanoïdes, a series starring a secondary character from the Incal' series drawn by Moebius. The eighth and final book was published in 2003. From the following year, Gimenez subsequently started to work on new installments in his series 'Le Quatrième Pouvoir', that was also published in English as 'The Fourth Power'.
Moi, Dragon
He moved over to Le Lombard to create the sword & sorcery trilogy 'Moi, Dragon' in 2010 and the diptych 'La Dernière Vie' in 2011. He returned to science fiction in 2011 when he created the ongoing series 'Segments' with Richard Malka for Glénat. Besides comics, Juan Giménez has made illustrations, covers for novels, storyboards for movies and concepts for computer games.
Juan Giménez was a strong influence on Simon Pothier.
