Tom S. Hageman is a Dutch visual artist who was active as a cartoonist in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born in 1943 in Amsterdam and studied at the Academy Minerva in Groningen. After finishing his studies Hageman traveled extensively in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India which influenced him in his development as an artist.
His comic strips 'Spillebuik' and 'Aanval op Pessarium' were both published in the Frisian magazine A-wyt around 1970. 'Spillebuik' was also published in book format in 1969. His other comics were 'Vorst Onderbroek en de Heilige Oorlog' in BBK Bulletin in 1977. Hageman made 'Die Zauberflöte' (1992) for a music festival.
Hageman was a teacher with the Minerva Academy in the 1970s and 1980s, and was a chairman for the National Association for Visual Arts. In the early 1990s Hageman became an artist in residence and teacher at the Prague Academy for Visual Arts (Czechoslovakia) and travels in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Ukraine. He has since then lived and worked as a visual artist and etcher in Belgium and Spain.
In 1985, he made a contribution to the book 'Tegenaanval' (De Lijn, 1985), an anti-military book advocating the liberation of cartoonist Wim Stevenhagen, who was sentenced for refusing to fulfill his military service for reasons of principle.
