Frank Johnson was one of Mort Walker's assistants who ghosted on many comics like 'Beetle Bailey' and 'Hi and Lois'. Johnson ghosted the comic from 1971 to 1982, and then continued it for another eightteen years, this time credited. He has also drawn the 'Bringing Up Father' (George McManus) comic for King Features from 1981 to 2000.
In addition, Johnson did artwork for 'Etiquette Kids' and 'Treasure Chest' for Pflaum in the mid-1960s. He did the newspaper strip 'Beany' from 1968 and 1974, and worked on such Charlton comics as 'The Flintstones', 'The Jetsons', 'Huckleberry Hound', 'Yogi Bear', 'Little Genius', 'Alley Oop' and 'Tiger'. He was also present at Western Publishing with 'Heckle and Jeckle' in the 1970s.
