'Mass og Lasse'.
One of the early Norwegian comic artists, Sverre Knudsen is the author of the series 'Mass og Lasse', that appeared in Børnetidende from 1919 on. 'Mass of Lasse' was, just like Jan Lunde's 'Skomaker Bekk', a variation of Rudolph Dirks' 'The Katzenjammer Kids', , though the names themselves were based on the Norwegian folk song 'Han Mas og han Lasse'. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Knudsen wrote the text inside the panels, instead of underneath them. Therefore, the series can be seen as the first modern Norwegian comic series.
He should not be confused with Norwegian author and musician Sverre Knudsen (°1955).
