Laurent Percelay is a French comic book artist, who has worked under the pen names Lol!, James and James Ottoprod. He is mainly known for his satirical comics, that generally star anthropomorphic characters. Raised in the Nantes-region, he is currently based in Paris. He worked worked for an ad agency from 1995, and started contributing comics to magazines like Le Journal de Mickey and Tchô! in 1998. By then still using the pen name Lol!, he had his first comic books published by Dargaud: three volumes of the musical humor series 'La Tribue' (2002-2006). Under his own name, he scripted 'Sans Queue Ni Tête' for Boris Mirroir (La Boîte à Bulles, 2005), drew the mini-comic 'Mundial France/Allemagne '82' (script by Marc Lizano, Editions Carabas, 2006) and was storyboard artist on 'Le Médecin Malgré Lui', the third book in the 'Commedia' series of Vents d'Ouest (art by Kawaii Studio, 2005).
He has been working under the name James since 2006. He launched the Ottoprod Inc. blog with artist La Tête X (Boris Mirroir). This blog paved the way for publications at L'Association and in the periodical Jade by 6 Pieds sous Terre. 6 Pieds Sous Terre published two books in the following years, 'Comme un lundi' (2006) and 'Les Mauvaises Humeurs de James et la Tête X' (2007). Between 2008 and 2012, James wrote and drew four books of 'Dans mon Open Space' for Dargaud, a satirical take on corporate life.
Percelay has released several one-shot books in the following years, including new collaborations with Boris Mirroir/La Tête X ('Pathetik', 'Zzzwük', 'Backstage') and solo efforts like 'Un week-end entre parenthèses' (Le Potager Moderne, 2008), '365 fois 77,8' (6 Pieds Sous Terre, 2012), 'En toute simplicitude' (6 Pieds Sous Terre, 2013-2014) and 'Hipster than ever' (Jungle, 2015). He has furthermore worked with the writers Fabcaro ('Amour, Passion & XD Diesel' for Fluide Glacial), Sylvain Ricard ('...à la folie' at Futuropolis, 2009), Patrice Larcenet ('La cellule Prométhée' at Glénat, 2012), Marc Dubuisson ('Charles Charles profession président' at Delcourt, 2013) and Christian Chavagneux ('Les aventuriers de la finance perdue' at Casterman, 2016).
He has also participated in several collective books by Vide Cocagne, Éditions Charrette and La Revue dessinée, among other companies. He has been posting his satirical drawings on the blog 'On veut travailler pour le canard enchaîné', that he shares with Guillaume Bouzard since 2012. He has contributed to the magazine L'Éprouvette and to La Matinale du Monde, for which he makes the satirical weekly strip 'Françoise, Manuela & les autres' since May 2015.
