Priel was an early 20th-century Dutch illustrator, about whom little is known. During the late 1930s, he was one of the main illustrators for Kleine Wij, the children's supplement of the Dutch socialist weekly magazine Wij. He contributed two text comics, 'Amin en Zijn Haan' (1937-1938) and 'De Avonturen van Tub en Tobias' (1937).

Life and career
Virtually nothing is known about Priel, who presumably was Dutch. All of his known illustration work is concentrated in the Dutch weekly Wij (with the subtitle "Ons Werk, Ons Leven"), a magazine launched by the Amsterdam publishing company De Arbeiderspers in January 1935. The weekly's demographic were common workers. From 3 July 1936 on, subscribers were not only automatically insured against accidents, but also treated with a special children's supplement of eight pages. The editor was children's writer A.D. Hildebrand (of 'Bolke de Beer' fame), and pedagogic supervision came from Dutch writer/teacher Theo Thijssen (of 'Kees de Jongen' fame). The supplement was originally titled Wij Voor Onze Meisjes en Jongens, but later shortened and retitled to Kleine Wij. Each issue was filled with stories in rhyme, picture stories, handicraft sections and contests.
Priel's contributions to Kleine Wij were the text comics 'Amin en Zijn Haan' (1937-1938) and 'De Avonturen van Tub en Tobias' (1937). The first comic is a story about a boy in South-East Asia with his pet rooster. The adventures of 'Tub en Tobias', about a boy and his dog, were printed on the front cover.
Among the other comic artists and illustrators who worked for Kleine Wij were Rein Stuurman, Henk Rotgans, Huib de Ru, Piet Worm, Wim Bijmoer, Ger Sligte, William Timym, Joop de Groote, Co Egelie, Henk Kabos, Greetje Kroone and Toby Vos. On 29 May 1942, during World War II, both Wij and Kleine Wij were discontinued.
