Early life and career
Stevan Subić was born in 1982 in the city of Zrenjanin in northern Serbia (then still Yugoslavia), where he still lives and works. Although he had enjoyed drawing comics as a child, he first explored other media in his early professional life. Working in print and electronic media, Subić was active as a scriptwriter, actor and editor. Between 2002 and 2008, he was the creator and editor of an experimental radio sketch show for youngsters, Radio Muholovkashow, broadcast on, subsequently, Radio Zrenjanin, Radio Kojota and Fedra. Unaware of his childhood background in comics, several people noticed the show's comic-style storytelling, and one listener even called it "the most comic-like radio format he had ever heard".

In addition to his radio show, Subić has been associated with several youth-related associations in and outside of his hometown. He has organized workshops, concerts and forums, given lectures and masterclasses (for instance at the Novi Sad Academy of Arts), and initiated humanitarian projects for young people. One of his initiatives was the fanzine Žuta Cigla ("Yellow Brick"), which in the early 2000s had a notable following in Zrenjanin.

Early comics
In 2009, Subić changed course and began working as a professional artist. As an illustrator and graphic designer, he has created magazine covers, promotional artwork and theater posters. In the meantime, he also tried his luck as a comic creator. Self-taught, he had no mentors, but developed close bonds with several colleagues from the comic industry. In September 2009, he won an award with a four-panel comic strip at a comics salon organized by the Student Cultural Center in Belgrade. Between 2009 and 2012, he submitted short comic stories to comic festivals in Serbia, Croatia and North Macedonia, several of which won awards. In 2011, Subić won first prize at the international competition 'Conflicts War Balloons', organized by the city of Genoa in Italy, with Sergio Toppi as head of the jury. Subić's winning comic 'Conflitti', as well as its sequel 'Tracce', have been printed many times in Serbia and abroad. His comic stories have been published in the Italian online comic magazines Verticalismi and Rusty Dogs.

Italian comics
After publishing his first stories in Serbian publications, Subić's talent was picked up by international publishers. Several of his international collaborations have later been translated for the Serbian market as well. In 2012, he received a work offer from the Italian publishing company Sergio Bonelli Editore. Together with scriptwriter and series creator Giancarlo Manfredi, he made two issues of the comic book series starring the Scottish explorer 'Adam Wilde': 'Il Signore delle Iene' (#8, 2015) and 'Colenso' (#23, 2016). At Bonelli, he also drew the mystery story 'Il Terzo Giorno' ("The Third Day", 2018), issue #65 of the monthly anthology series 'Le Storie', written by Isaak Friedl and Marco Nucci. Later on, he returned to Bonelli to draw issue #9 of 'Senzanima', a fantasy spin-off series of 'Dragonero', written by Luca Barbieri.

French comics
Stevan Subić's work for Bonelli in Italy was also noticed by publishers in France, starting with Delcourt. In 2015, he debuted on the French market with '1666 - L'Homme à l'Origine du Grand Incendie de Londres' ("1666 - The Man Who Started the Great Fire of London"), written by Fred Duval and Nicolas Moustey as the tenth installment of the historical series 'L'Homme de l'Année'. Still for Delcourt, Subić drew the first the diptych 'Empire Mécanique', the first two volumes of 'M.O.R.I.A.R.T.Y.' (2018-2019), a steampunk take on the Sherlock Holmes universe, written by Fred Duval and Jean-Pierre Pécau. The next two-volume story cycle was drawn by Gess.

After that, Subić was hired by Éditions Soleil to draw the first volume of a new graphic novel adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'Tarzan', written by Christophe Bec. The second volume was drawn by Robert De La Torre and Stefano Raffaele. Subsequently, Subić was contacted by the famous comic book author Jean-David Morvan with the request of coming to work for the French publishing house Glénat. Again from a script by Christophe Bec, Subić drew volume #13 of Glénat's original 'Conan the Barbarian' comic series: 'Conan Le Cimmérien: Xuthal la Crépusculaire' ("Conan of Cimmeria: Xutal, City of Twilight", 2022).

'Tarzan, Seigneur de la Jungle' (2021).

American work

He has then joined DC Comics as an artist for several Batman-related mini-series. With writer/actor Paul Dano, he created the six-issue series 'The Riddler: Year One' (2022-2023), which appeared as the official prequel to the 2022 film 'The Batman', directed by Matt Reeves. With Rodney Barnes as writer, Subić then launched 'Batman: Full Moon' (2024-2025), a horror mini-series in which Batman fights the werewolf of Gotham City.

For the French market, Stevan Subić has also contributed to several collective projects.
